Sarah Deer is a professor at the William Mitchell College of Law. Professor Deer is a Citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and has taught at UCLA in the tribal legal studies program. She is a victim advocacy legal specialist for the Tribal Law & Policy Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota. She focuses her legal work on violent crime on Indian reservations and has co-authored two textbooks on tribal law and several academic articles on Native American women. Professor Deer helped to author Amnesty International's influential report "Maze of Injustice" that examined and exposed violence against Native women and the jurisdictional problems associated with it.
